Plage du Petit Pont

02/02/17

We would like to share our experiences with you of the nude beaches of Vendee, Pays-de-la-Loire, France, and a few further South. Perhaps you could put them on your site as the location information and local knowledge is very difficult to obtain, especially in English. Sorry about the lack of photos

Plage du Petit Pont. Between Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie and Bretignollles-sur-mer.

This beach is named after the café that marks the turn off point on the main road. An unmade road behind the café leads to a parking area, (GPS: 46.6566, -1.909) from which there is a 550 yard walk across flattish dunes to the beach. Outside of high season there is another access 1 mile to the south just at the beginning of the village, La Sauzaie. About 100 yards past the Village sign. Driving from the café it is the first on the right and is marked “No Entry” and the French equivalent of no through road. A little way in it runs alongside a cycle track on the left and you come to a car park on the right. If the seasonal barrier here is shut you could to go back to the café as it is a shorter walk from there! If it is open drive for about a mile on a very bumpy track bearing right along the coast till you come to the top of a sandy slope leading 70 yards down to the beach. You could walk the mile from the car park barrier if you choose to. Either way the beach is well worthwhile with fairly coarse sand, quite a steep slope so the tide does not go too far away for very good swimming and an area of rocks to explore at low tide. When we were there about 6 other couples were on the beach with no-one nearer than 100 yards. A few clothed dog walkers passed along the waters edge and anglers and low water fishermen were on the rocks but no-one took any notice of anyone in a very relaxed atmosphere. Our favourite beach in this area.
